IPwe CEO, Eric Spangenberg has announced an initiative to apply NFT (non-fungible tokens) on patents. The announcement further states that IPwe will partner with IBM and in particular with IBM's blockchain group.
Spangenberg is quoted as saying, "Global IP investment was upwards of $1.9 trillion - even larger than the private equity industry. Most people have a very limited understanding of what it is, how it operates, how to value it, and to deploy it."
Looking forward to that time when interests in patents are easily, yet securely traded like stocks or bonds. Imagine owning fractional shares or investing in the future value of pending patents. In the meanwhile, enjoy saying the word "non-fungible".
In a recent Reuter's interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook indicated that the installed base of active iPhones had reached 1 billion devices:
"Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook told Reuters in an interview that the company now has an active installed base of 1.65 billion devices, compared with 1.5 billion devices a year ago. Cook also said Apple now has an installed base of more than 1 billion iPhones, an increase over the 900 million the company most recently disclosed in 2019."
This prompted curious minds to wonder, "How many active devices are out there?" One answer from Gartner Group research indicates that the installed base of Smartphones grows from 4.3 billion in 2021 to over 4.4 billion in 2022.
Combining the installed base of smartphones, laptops, and tablets, the Gartner research indicates a growth from 5.7 billion in 2021 to nearly 6 billion in 2022.
With time, each of the many billions of power adapters associated with the billions of active mobile devices can and will be displaced with zero standby energy consumption power adapters.
One of the benefits of eliminating standby power consumption is the environmental benefits. Climate change has been a trending topic and continues to see initiatives from both private and public leaders around the globe.
In China, the Xi administration continues to be active in fighting climate change frequently leading with inspirational and meaningful actions. China was the global leader to standardize USB phone chargers,-now the world-wide leader in phone chargers. In the automotive industry, a mandate requiring electric vehicles (EV) make up 40% of all sales by 2030 is triggering the advantages of being an early mover in everything from batteries and minerals to AI and ride-sharing. China has multiple five-year plans that address carbon emissions. Less well known, there is a bottom-up ground-swell to pack "doggy bags" to reduce food waste at eateries.
Playing catchup in the United States, the Biden administration has signaled that fighting climate change is an utmost priority (that is only second to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic). Initiatives to-date include accepting the United Nations' Paris Climate Agreement, creating green jobs, establish a National Climate Task Force, funding a $100 Million Climate Innovation Research Opportunity, return to science, environmental justice, global cooperation at Leaders Summit on Climate, to nominating key agency appointments at the Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Transportation.
It takes vision to commit to the long-term initiatives to save the earth for future generations. Idle power supplies result in millions of tons of sadly-unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions. We fully expect enlightened regulators to continue to reduce standby power consumption and drive that to zero. Together, let us make this easy win with forever benefits for all to enjoy.
It is important to see the most recent Pixel 5 from Google. Tops and foremost among the various features and benefits, the Pixel 5 brings the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 11.
The latest OS is a must for developers seeking early access to changes and new functions. Consumers also enjoy a comparatively cleaner build with fewer prying eyes among the many apps attempting to track your every thought and movement.
As expected, Prosary is pleased to confirm that the Pixel 5 operates with Prosary technology. The mere presence of a USB type-c connector does not assure proper support of USB specifications. In this case, the Pixel 5 works fine.
Plug in a Prosary smart charger, the charger wakes from OFF, and begins to charge the Pixel 5 same as any other. Unplug the phone, the smart charger detects the detach event, and the charger turns off, completely off, drawing zero power.
Apple 5G offerings continue to lead with significant innovations including LIDAR, MagSafe, and a commitment to the environment. Of particular interest are the announcements to remove the power adapter and continued enhancements for wireless charging.
"...Committed to the Environment
Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations and, by 2030, plans to have net zero climate impact across the entire business, which includes manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles. This means that every Apple device sold, from material collection, component manufacturing, assembly, transport, customer use, charging, all the way through recycling and material recovery, will be 100 percent carbon neutral. iPhone 12 Pro models were designed with the environment in mind. For the first time, iPhone 12 Pro models will utilize 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, including the new camera, Taptic Engine, and MagSafe, as well as Apple’s MagSafe accessories. Apple is also removing the power adapter and EarPods from iPhone packaging, further reducing carbon emissions and avoiding the mining and use of precious materials, which enables smaller and lighter packaging, and allows for 70 percent more boxes to be shipped on a pallet. Taken altogether, these changes will cut over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to removing nearly 450,000 cars from the road per year..."
-Apple October 13, 2020 press release
We agree with Apple and their commitments to the environment. Prosary technology reduces wasted energy for both wired and wireless chargers. Apples initiative to remove basic-featured low-cost power adapters encourages healthy innovation and competition to improve charging solutions. As Apple and their competitors compete to improve efficiency, Prosary solutions are a natural step along the path to a greener good.
Samsung releases a mid-life refresh of the flagship Galaxy S20 featuring the Qualcomm 865, an always-on OLED with diminutive hole-punch, and 25W fast charging. In short, we love it!
Regarding charging, the Samsung S20 Fan Edition 5G claims to support 25W fast charging while only including a 15W power adapter in the box. It turns out that fast chargers rarely operate at full power to protect the battery. Thus a 15W charger does a fairly excellent job of fast charging while maintaining a cooler charging profile. With respect to Prosary technology, that could be applied as an enhancement to both bundled 15W chargers, as well as 25W after-market chargers. Considering this might literally double the already huge number of Samsung power adapters sold, having those extra power adapters actually turn off when they say they are off, would make the world a little better place.
Beyond the charging discussion, we have a constructive experience to share seeking for improvement. As usual for this refresh, Google reserved Android 11 for the Nexus 5, while this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G hobbles along with Android 10 and a variety of Samsung-ware. Curiously the Samsung-ware information and notifications are unbranded and did instill confusion. Several different apps asking for permission for performing effectively the same function without clearly identifying the source of the notification. Doubtful that Google App Store policy, EU regulations and/or California Consumer Protection Act allow such brash behavior. Samsung promises several generations of updates,-Maybe one or more of those will improve. Hope this is not perceived as a knock on Samsung, but rather an encouragement for Samsung as well as others in the community to do better.
Nintendo reports over 55 million Switch platform units sold as of March 31, 2020.
Nintendo's Switch is extremely popular and successful. The Switch also happens to be among the earlier and better implementations of USB type-C!
In case you are wondering, yes the Nintendo Switch operates nicely with Prosary intelligent power saving technology!
More and more power adapters are migrating to USB type-C .
